A CLINICAL STUDY OF VARIOUS FINDINGS IN UPPER GASTROINTESTINAL ENDOSCOPY IN PATIENTS PRESENTING WITH DYSPEPSIA

Introduction: One of the common gastrointestinal problems includes dyspepsia which is predominantly characterised by persistent or recurrent upper abdominal pain. Epigastric pain, bloating, early satiety, nausea, and heartburn are common symptoms. Daily functioning and quality of life can be greatly impacted by dyspepsia. Functional causes or organic disorders like gastritis, cancer, or peptic ulcer disease may be the underlying cause. The present study aims to determine the pattern of various endoscopic findings in patients with dyspepsia.
Materials & Methods: This is a Cross-sectional study conducted in Department of Surgery, in Thoothukudi. Study was done for a period of 1 year duration. This includes 50 patients who presented with symptoms of dyspepsia for more than three months were selected for the study.
Results: The mean age of study participants was 44 years. Male were predominantly affected than females. The most common symptom reported was epigastric pain, heart burn, nausea, and vomiting. In endoscopic findings, Gastritis was identified in 54% of the patients and 10% were diagnosed with malignancy.
Conclusion: Dyspepsia was most prevalent among individuals aged 30-39 years. The stomach was the most frequent site of lesions in patients presenting with dyspepsia. The incidence of malignancy increased with advancing age.
